The token war continues. Biden takes them to the US and irritates China

The challenge between Porcelain Y USA for Taiwan necessarily goes through i chip, a true Pacific Island treasure. But if Taipei is the hottest front in this semiconductor challenge that divides Washington and Beijing, the issue goes beyond “simple” control of the island, also extending to US territory.

Confirmation of the importance of this clash and of the value placed on semiconductors in the imperial logic of the People’s Republic of China and the United States is the bipartisan bill Chips and Science Act of 2022: a measure worth 52,000 million dollars that aims to strengthen research and development of semiconductors in the US president jose Biden explained the importance of this proposal by explaining that the tokens are “at the base of the modern economy” and remembering how “once the United States had 40% of world production, but then with the decline of our manufacturing, production moved abroad”.

The objective of democratic administration is twofold. On the one hand, there is the more conjunctural and eventual one of transferring production to the interior for clear electoral reasons: to activate the factories in the national territory, in full election campaign for midterm elections and with a Biden in crisis before the Republican wave, it is a sign of the will to recover ground in public opinion. Not by chance, on the day of the approval of the law, the American company Micron announced an investment of 40 billion dollars that will materialize, according to the American giant, in 40 thousand new jobs. Vital element for a presidency that seemed very fragile and destined to suffer a harsh reaction.

But apart from the electoral question, although fundamental, there is the most important question, which is the clash with China. The confirmation of this international importance of the Potato chips and Science Act signed by Biden comes from two diplomatic reactions. The first, internal, is represented by the note published by the US Secretary of State, Antony blinked. The head of US diplomacy defined the bipartisan arrangement as “a fundamental step to prepare our economy for what the challenges of the 21st century will be.” While from the opposite front, the Chinese, came harsh words of condemnation. as reported AgilityChinese Foreign Ministry spokesman, Wang Wenbinattacked the US measure denouncing “restrictions on investments and normal economic and commercial activities of relevant companies in China” and reiterated that these measures defined within the Potato chips and the Science Act “have a strong geopolitical color and are another example of American economic coercion.”

The issue in recent days has also gained importance for the strengthening of the so-called alliance of “Tokens 4”, a US-Japan-Taiwan semiconductor cooperation platform that South Korea appears to join. According to the South Korean press, the president said that all the ministries involved are evaluating the issue “through the lens of national interest”, even if Industry Minister Lee Chang-yang has currently denied Seoul’s involvement because “it does not intends to join an exclusive group that excludes certain countries, such as China.” For South Korea, it is about balancing two conflicting interests: that of its main military ally and that of its main economic partner. The Asian government does not want to be included in a system where challenging Beijing risks compromising its economy. But it is clear now that the semiconductor game is becoming increasingly central to the Indo-Pacific logic. Y Taiwan, authentic “Eldorado” of the chips, was a very clear warning. as reported linkiesta, Taiwan today “produces 20% of the world’s semiconductors and more than 90% of the most technological chips”: chips that are also used in the most important electronic systems of the US military, but also by the most important giants of the industry national. Having the ability to independently produce this technology and prevent China from controlling its production and trade is an essential goal. And Washington is perfectly aware of this.
