Nothing Phone Review (1) – Andrea Galeazzi

Beautiful, different, by design. Yes, this Nothing Phone (1) stands out and with the transparent back cover and related LEDs behind it, it’s really nice to look at. Then you turn it on and it turns out to be a good mid-range Android like many.

Design and tactile materials
the design is its strong point, it is made of glass and aluminium, it weighs 193 grams and it is often 8.3mm Certification present IP53.
L’always active the screen is there, but its real peculiarity is the LEDs under the transparent back cover, really beautiful during games and ringtones. As to connectivity we found 5G, WiFi6, Bluetooth 5.2, GPS, NFC, Android Auto and Google Pay all reliable. However, the video does not come out of the USB-C port.
Display
the display it’s a OLED of 6.55″ HDR10+ certified and with adaptive refresh rate capable of reaching up to 120Hz
The colors are from average/good screen, the sensor tends to keep the brightness a bit low and when writing is set to minimum, a thread “drags”:
processor and memory
the processor in fact, customized by Qualcomm is Snapdragon 778G + and they will join 8 / 12GB of RAM Y 128 / 256GB of memory internal.
Drums
There drums it’s a 4500mAh that promises 18 hours of use or 2 days on stand-by, reaches 50% charge in 18 minutes and also supports reverse wireless charging
L’autonomy ok, no battery, but in the night of the day, the stress is 10%. There are no particular optimizations for loading.
Software and ecosystem
The embedded software is android 12 with the July patches. the interface NothingOS it’s essentially stock Android with no major customizations, there’s a double-tap to turn off the screen, and the drawer can’t be removed. Updates seem to be coming pretty frequently for now, the hold will tell us if that’s always the case.
telephone department
Phone 1 is dual SIM, It has good reception, and good audio quality both in speaker and capsule. the marker gives the possibility to register the to call.
Photo and video
the room compartment It is made up:
- room major of 50MP OIS with Sony IMX766 sensor and f/1.8 aperture.
- room ultra wide angle of 50MP f/2.2 with Samsung JN1 sensor.
- room front of 16MP f/2.45 with Sony IMX471 sensor.
THE results They are good mid-range, both photos and videos are not bad. Zoom failed but it was predictable not to have a special room.
Audio
Audio really cool, it’s stereo but above all the two speakers are really powerful.
apps and games
The speed and fluidity are not top but a good mid range, so they are fine. Too bad the vibration is not higher, a bit soft.
The sector also did well gaming, there are no specific game modes, but Real Racing runs smoothly.
definitive sentence
version of 8 / 128GB unfortunately there is no white, the color I prefer, the 8 / 256GB, which in any case in my opinion is the most focused, it costs 529 euros. Sensible price, sensible phone but it’s a “NI”, nice the first day but Android like so many others the second. cheers to Any for trying to do something new but even so in the end there were no great results, attention, I like it and it’s fine but that still says a lot about how difficult it is to innovate today. Perhaps, as much as I love the design, I would have preferred more of a focus on a new, smart user interface.
